GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Note: Temporary position. Position funded for 2 years with the possibility of extension if funding is available.

Under the direction of the State Mammalogist, the Statewide Bat Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating and conducting bat conservation and research statewide. Primary focus is on responding to the threat of white-nose syndrome. Coordinates research and manages ongoing bat related research contracts. Works with landowners and partners to arrange access to survey sites, travels to various (occasionally remote) locations, conducts site visits, and swabs bats to test for the presence of the of Pseudogymnoascus destructans. Performs administrative duties and prepares technical reports, popular articles and professional journal publications. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures. This position is funded for 2-3 years with the possibility of extension if new funding becomes available. 
NOTE: Natural Resources Specialist (NRS) salary will be commensurate with experience and/or completion of an advanced degree.
 

Qualifications

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree preferably in Wildlife Science, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Ecology, Range and Wildlife Management or closely related field in Natural Resources Management. Major coursework from bachelor’s or post bachelor’s degree programs must include a minimum of 24 hours in Wildlife/Habitat Conservation, Wildlife/Natural Resources Management, Wildlife Biology, and/or Research Methods.

Experience:
NRS II: Two years relevant professional experience;
NRS III: Six years relevant professional experience;
Experience with handling bats and bat field research methods.
NOTE: Internships and/or volunteer time on bat related projects may count as relevant professional experience.

Licensure:
Applicant must possess a valid State driver’s license;
Must provide documentation of rabies vaccination or titer check within the last 2 years.
NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license and vaccination.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to hike in potentially rugged terrain carrying heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.) in all types of weather.
