Living Canopies, a UMD environmental startup company, is in its third year of product development and second year of sales of the Living Umbrella (www.livingcanopies.com). We are looking to hire 2 interns for the Fall Semester to help with design, assembly, installs, maintenance, shipping and sales.
Interns will assist with:
- component assembly (electronics, frames, irrigation systems),
- umbrella installations and maintenance at Mid-Atlantic sites,
- packaging for common carrier shipping,
- plant care and green house maintenance at the Terp Farm in Upper Marlboro,
- CAD drawing parts and assemblies,
- sales calls and lead development,
- workshop upkeep.
Requested Skills:
- licensed to drive and have your own transportation
- competent in using hand tools (e.g. screwdrivers, wrenches, knives),
- ability to use power tools (e.g., cordless drills, heat guns, drill press),
- basic understanding of direct current electronics,
- ability to lift 100 lbs to your waist,
- proficient with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, Sketchup, etc),
- familiar with plant care
- ability to work outside for 8 hours
- experience with making sales calls
- ability to communicate effectively
Pay: $10.50 to $15.00 per hour dependent on experience and skill level
