Internship Description: This is a unique opportunity to play an important role in international science, working as a team member on a research project focused on plant biodiversity and the utilization of plant material for medical use. You will be working with medical and environmental scientists at the University of Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and with the Washington DC-based NGO, Friends of the Congo. This virtual internship will rely on close e-mail interaction and communication in French with experienced Congolese research physicians and scientists; Google Translate provides an easy to use platform for effortless translation, and is the norm for doing international science—you will surely enjoy the experience! Dr Edward Landa of UMD-ENST will serve in an on-campus, liaison role during the internship. A highly varied set of assignments, including literature review, online research, database entry, preparation of GIS maps and story maps, PowerPoint presentations, and social media outreach.
