The Wildlife Society at UMD - guest speakers from USDA APHIS 6-7 p.m. on Nov. 16 and Dec. 2.

There will be two speakers from USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service at upcoming UMD The Wildlife Society meetings: 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16 and Thursday, Dec. 2. 

• 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16, 0422 Animal Science Building

Janet Bucknall, Deputy Administrator, USDA APHIS Wildlife Services, will talk about the public trust doctrine, conservation and wildlife damage management. She will also discuss One Health (the intersection of environmental, animal and human health), as well as the roles of federal, state and local government in wildlife damage management.

• 6-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, 0422 Animal Science Building

Andy Clapper, a certified wildlife biologist with USDA Wildlife Services, will discuss the Agency’s role in protecting threatened and endangered species.

Both speakers will also discuss their career paths and be available to give advice to student participants.

The UMD Student Chapter of the Wildlife Society’s mission is to represent and link the professional community of students, scientists, managers, and others who actively work to study, manage, and conserve wildlife and its habitats worldwide. We host educational workshops, guest speakers, and more to help prepare students for becoming wildlife professionals. You don't have to be pursuing a major or career in wildlife to come to our events, though!
