Christopher Sorich| The Garden Club of America Fellowship in Tropical Botany

Christopher Sorich, 2025 Tropical Botany scholar, has been collecting plant samples of a rare native plant called Cyanea hirtella (a type of lobeliad) on the island of Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i. The goal is to use DNA and chemical traits to clarify how these plants evolved and guide conservation efforts. Christopher’s research is supported by The Garden Club of America Fellowship in Tropical Botany, in partnership with the National Tropical Botanical Garden.
