USDA’s Environmental Microbial and Food Safety Laboratory summer position
The USDA’s Environmental Microbial and Food Safety Laboratory is looking for a motivated student to help with both computer coding and field work activities. The prospective candidate for this position will aid in applying machine learning to environmental datasets using the R and/or Python languages. Candidates should have previous experience in coding whether from academic classes or past research experiences and should be at an intermediate or more advanced level as this will encompass the majority of this position. The candidate should have some familiarity with machine learning, specifically artificial neural networks.
A secondary function of the prospective candidate’s role will be to aid in field-data collection. This will involve helping in collecting water samples and characterizing the aquatic environment by performing field and/or lab water quality measurements. Past field or laboratory experience would be beneficial but is not a requirement. Reliable transport to and from our location in Beltsville (Powder Mill Rd) is required. The position may be contain a work from home component once onboard training and familiarity with projects is complete.
