As summer ticks on, we wanted to send out a special summer edition of our announcements with things you may be interested in or want to put on your calendar for this fall! Check them out below: Featured Upcoming Events & Opportunities Mark your calendars for the annual AGNR Welcome Back Bash! Thursday, September 10th from 3:30 - 5:30 pm in the ANSC Courtyard Fill out this form and provide 2-3 high quality photos of what you've been doing this summer with your name and a brief description.  Photos can include summer jobs/internships, hanging out with friends and family, classes, travel, etc. Select photos will be featured on AGNR social media. Again the form link is https://go.umd.edu/suys26 Each AGNR student submitting the form will be eligible to win a prize from the college (1 entry per person). The winner will be selected at random and the prize will be available for pickup at the annual AGNR Welcome Back Bash in September.   Earn an extra entry into the raffle by following AGNR on Instagram and liking and sharing our "Show us Your Summer" posts! Don't forget to tag us in your share.  Entries are due by August 31st. Attention SOPHOMORES!   Consider applying to be a fellow for the AGNR Sophomore Year Experience (AGNR SYE) program!  This year-long cohort program engages you and your fellow sophomore students in formal and informal activities to help you to grow as individuals, professionals, and leaders while building community and connections along the way.  Each month, SYE fellows will embrace topics such as meaningful citizenship, career planning, financial literacy, and community involvement. This program is not a course, as there is no credit or grades, but a guided program to help you make the most of your sophomore year.  AGNR SYE Fellows who successfully complete the program will be awarded a $3,000 experiential learning stipend that can be used toward a study abroad program, unpaid internship, undergraduate research, travel to a conference, or other pre-approved experience. Complete our fellow application at:  https://forms.gle/npoyWQZ3VCNYfXW59  Apps are due by 8/16/26 Career Development & Exploration The AFA Leaders Conference is an annual 4-day event where students from across the country come together to learn from industry leaders. You will have the opportunity to meet students with similar professional interests, connect with industry professionals in ag, animal and food, and develop key professional skills.    Conference Details: The conference takes place in Kansas City, MO from November 12-15. For all students who are admitted, AFA covers the cost of your conference registration, hotel, and food while at the conference. The only cost to you is travel to and from Kansas City, though the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources has a travel stipend application available that could cover the majority of travel expenses.    Application + Preparation (and pizza!): The deadline to apply for Leaders Conference is Friday, September 10. It would be great to get your application started now before the rush of the beginning of the semester! To help you prepare, we are offering a drop-in session with our AFA Ambassador, Maddie Caiazzo, on Friday, September 4 at noon. We will be providing free pizza (!) and the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about Leaders Conference and your application.    Check out more information and let us know you’re coming on Handshake! *You are not required to pre-register, but it helps us know how much food to order. INTERN FOR A DAY The University Career Center's popular Intern for a Day program connects undergraduate UMD students with professionals (including alumni, parents/family members, and other off-campus partners) for in-person job shadowing or virtual informational interviewing experiences to explore potential career fields of interest. After participating in a mandatory orientation and completing an application, University Career Center staff match you with an professional of interest for a half- or full-day job shadowing experience or a virtual informational interview. AEES Rain Garden Planting

Join AGNR on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 11:15- 5:00 pm for a trip to the Wye Research and Education Center located on Maryland's Eastern Shore. 

We'll transport you to the center where you'll get to see the facility, learn about it's history and purpose, and hear directly from AGNR Research Faculty on the important work they are doing in the fields of horticulture, water, wildlife, and weeds. 

REC Treks are here to literally get you out into the field!

Take a trip to the Eastern Shore to visit the Wye Research and Education Center (WREC)! Students will also have the opportunity to learn directly from a variety of researchers, including horticulture specialists, a water researcher, a wildlife management specialist, and a weed scientist.

17 for Peace and Justice, UMD's environmental justice student organization, is hosting its first-ever Climate Anxiety Week from March 2-8.
