Patuxent River Park Research Intern - Seasonal

Description
 Patuxent River Park, located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is seeking two research interns to assist with its ongoing wild rice restoration program.  This will be the 18th consecutive year of dispersing seeds, protecting current stands of wild rice with fencing, and collecting mature seeds.  The hired candidates will assist with other park programs such as osprey banding, wood duck nest box monitoring, special event support, and interpretative programs.  Candidates must be able to effectively work in the field.    Patuxent River Park is located at 16000 Croom Airport Rd, Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20772.  This is a seasonal position.
 
Examples of Important Duties
  • Conduct field work in wetlands (install fencing, disperse seed, collect mature seeds, etc)
  • Operate a boat
  • Maintain organized field notes
  • Assist with educational programs and special events
 
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree (or in the process of obtaining) in Biology, Environmental Science, Wildlife or related field
  • GPA > 2.5
  • Experience working in wetlands and operating a boat is preferred
  • Dependable and reliable
  • Organized and able to maintain detailed notes
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record


Supplemental Information
 
Hours are approximately 24 hours/week; May – September (seasonal)
This position pays at a rate of $11.50/hour
