Below is a list of things you need to do BEFORE your 1-on-1 advising meeting (to get your fall registration block lifted). Read through these instructions carefully several times. If you have any questions, please consult with Peer Mentor Dan Le Kites (dlekites@umd.edu) or ENST student administrative assistant Nina Conkright (enstadvising@gmail.com) and then consult with your academic advisor (see attached list for your advisor). If you didn't make it to last night's advising meeting, here is a video from the meeting and here is the powerpoint. All the details are on our website's advising page as well (enst.umd.edu > Undergrad > Advising).
- Look through the attached list to see who you are assigned for advising this semester (it may have changed from last semester). Reach out to your advisor to schedule an advising meeting around 1 week prior to your registration time in Testudo. Advising over a week in advance or after your registration time is not recommended. Let your advisor know your official name, preferred name and pronouns, UID, ENST concentration (if you decided), Testudo Registration Date/Time, and dates/times you're available to meet during normal business hours. Students studying abroad can work with their advisor to conduct an online meeting.
- Prior to your advising meeting, print out your unofficial transcripts from Testudo then update your ENST curriculum sheet, ENST Student Questionnaire, Graduation Planning Grid, and GenEd sheet. (Even if you got your A.A. degree from a Maryland Community College, still bring in your GenEd sheet and just focus on finishing that professional writing class.) These documents are all available at enst.umd.edu > Undergrads > Advising > Advising Each Semester. Do a good job on this so your advisor can lift your registration block during your advising meeting. Remember that your job is being a student and this is one of the job's duties. Pay close attention each course's prereqs, coreqs, and semesters they're offered. In addition to reading the course details in Testudo, see the attached list of substitutions and click on both tabs.
- Remember all ENST students have to complete an environmental science related internship. Once you've been officially hired for your internship, submit your proposal on our website enst.umd.edu > Undergrads > Advising > Internship so we can get you course credit for your internship.
- Plan to take a course off-campus? Want to take more than 17 credits? Need to retake Orgo for the third time? Want to take a graduate level class? Follow the instructions on our website enst.umd.edu > Undergrads > Advising > Other Items.
- Seeing a trend? Most of your questions can be answered on our website (enst.umd.edu)! Check it out! Also check out our blog!
