Position Description
Stroud Water Research Center invites applications for a full-time research technician with expertise in watershed science (hydrology, geomorphology, or freshwater ecology). The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary science team investigating watershed hydrologic and water quality dynamics, fluvial geomorphic responses to land use and climate changes, and eco-hydro-geomorphological interactions in freshwater ecosystems, and assist in the day-to-day functioning of the Fluvial Geomorphology Laboratory.

Job Responsibilities
The employee will be responsible for completing general duties and responsibilities of the Fluvial Geomorphology group with PI supervision. Regular laboratory work will involve processing and analyzing water, sediment, and soil samples for total suspended sediment loads, organic carbon content, etc. Routine field work will involve: 1) topographic and habitat surveys, water and sediment collection from streams, rivers, and wetlands; 2) participation in research using indoor and outdoor experimental stream facilities at the Stroud Center; 3) maintenance of soil moisture, temperature, and water quality sensors and stream gages. The successful candidate will also be expected to enter, manage, and analyze data with supervision. While most work is conducted during regular work hours and in local geographies, occasionally projects do require overnight travel and irregular work hours.
Job Requirements
Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as a productive team member are essential. Previous experience with surveying (RTK GPS, total station), chemical analysis equipment, environmental sensors (e.g., Onset HOBO temp loggers, YSI multi-parameter water quality probes, Sontek flow meters), or water and sediment sample processing are preferred, but not required. Basic numeracy and statistics skills are required. The most competitive candidates will possess one or more advanced skills in data science (e.g., advanced statistics, Geographic Information Systems, R analytics).
A completed B.S. degree or five years of experience in earth science, ecology, geography, natural resources, environmental science, or related discipline is expected by the time of appointment. The position is annually renewable contingent upon performance and funding.
