I’m Amanda DuPrey-Hicks, the Student Conservation Association program coordinator for the Maryland Conservation Jobs Corps. With summer approaching you may have students looking for summer employment. I am urgently looking for crew leaders to help lead our youth and young adults teams. Our program takes place within several Maryland State Parks, including Seneca Creek, Patapsco Valley, and Cedarville State Park.
The Conservation Jobs Corps is a youth and young adult program that takes place every summer. This is a wonderful program that partners with Maryland State Parks to help young people get job skills and start their careers in conservation. You would be working outside, helping lead the team, and working alongside the team members completing hands-on meaningful projects. Projects like trail work, pollinator gardens, and building interpretive signage are some of the projects that are schedule for the program this year. These projects make such a difference to the parks, the community, and the kids.
I wanted to reach out to you directly since you are the internship coordinator for University of Maryland, and you’d be able to best pass along this information those interested in conservation work. Perhaps you can help me spread the word to other staff, students, and other networks. This open to anyone who is interested, even professors. We’ve had excellent experiences with educators in the past. Working with teenagers can be challenging but we’ve found that educators bring so many skills and experience with this age group. Many educators find this program rewarding and able to fit with their schedule. We’ve been fortunately to have some educators return for multiple years. I hope that you are able to pass along this experience to other who may be interested.
