Alternative Breaks Trip

 Dear ENST Undergraduate Students,

I want to bring to your attention UMD’s Alternative Breaks Program and the exciting experiences that this program offers.  Alternative Breaks (AB) are week-long service-learning immersion experiences during UMD’s Spring Break that address social and environmental issues in local, national, and international communities. You can find out more information about the AB program here: https://stamp.umd.edu/lcsl/alternative_breaks

I especially wanted to highlight one of the AB experiences related to regional environmental efforts.  I was the Advisor for this experience last year and three ENST students attended the trip and we all found it to be extremely worthwhile:

Annapolis, MD - Restoring the Ripple: Protecting the Chesapeake Bay

Trip Description: On this experience, we will have the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Bay and explore the importance of this natural wonder, along with tackling the issues that put the Chesapeake Bay at risk. Through collaboration with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, we will engage in hands-on field programs to actively combat the negative effects of agricultural, industrial, and human influence on the area. Participants will also be able to learn about the policies and restoration efforts in progress and will gain perspective on how the biodiversity of the Bay has impacts on our everyday lives.

I have attached a trip brochure with further information. Sign-ups for the trips are currently being accepted and if you have any questions about the trip feel free to reach out to one of the trip's fantastic Experience Leaders, Asrushi Gupta at agupta44@terpmail.umd.edu, or you can email me.

All the Best,

Jennifer
