The Board of Directors of the Friends of Blackwater has decided to terminate the annual Scholarship Program for Environmental Sciences so that more funding will be available to support projects and activities that are of more direct benefit to the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.
Since 2012, 29 awards have been presented to 28 Maryland applicants and a total of $70,000 was dispensed. More recently, the FOB has also supported two summer internships for visitor support activities at a total cost of about $18,000.The intention of the FOB Board is to continue, and expand, the support for interns. Our FY23 budget includes funds for two internships. These internships are administered by the Student Conservation Association and are announced on their web-site (https://www.thesca.org/serve/
These Blackwater Internships are not limited to Maryland residents as were the scholarships.
