Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This position is a full-time contractual position to provide support for the Maryland 4-H events, contests, state/national trips and other activities of the Maryland 4-H Program and coordination of 4-H events and activities held at the Maryland State Fair.

Qualifications:

Required –

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 1 to 2 years related experience.

Preferences –

• Experience with the 4-H Youth Development Program as a member, volunteer and/or employee.
• The individual must have good computer skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work well with diverse audiences and a strong understanding of the importance and role of youth development in executing the numerous trips, events, contests and other activities of the Maryland 4-H Program.

Salary & Benefits:

Salary commensurate with experience; base salary of $48,001. This is a full-time contractual position The University of Maryland offers an extensive benefits package.

Special Topics in Environmental Science and Technology; Ecological Entrepreneurship

​ (3 credits) -  ​

The course engages students in an interdisciplinary, active learning experience while aiming to produce a tangible, ecologically designed product or service that has commercial scalability. Ecological Design Thinking uses an iterative cycle of understanding customer empathy, learning about ecological technologies, appreciating environmentalism, designing, prototyping, testing and redesign. Ecological Entrepreneurship adapts the Lean Startup process to take innovation to the commercial application. It relies on customer discovery, empathy, storytelling, and the business model canvas. Students will learn in an active environment that requires working creatively, collaboratively, diligently, and precisely to create a business model and tangible prototype for a new commercial product.

AGNR Peer Mentors

AGNR Peer Mentor Job Description

Title:  AGNR Peer Mentor

Responsibilities:   The main responsibility of AGNR Peer Mentors is to assist AGNR undergraduate students with everyday campus issues, such as advising, registration, and more.   During office hours, you will have walk-in appointments with students in the college.  You will help them become familiar with registration procedures (Testudo), assist them with preparation of their 4-year academic plan, and explain their progress toward degree benchmarks.  You will work with students in subsequent semesters to pre-select courses and build tentative schedules, print academic audits, and otherwise prepare for their regular faculty advising appointments.  You may be asked to refer students to various campus services (e.g. Learning Assistance, Career Center, or tutoring services).   Peer Mentors will assist the AGNR Academic Programs Office with other tasks associated with student services and support, such as answering phones, filing records and assisting individuals who walk into the main office.   Peer Mentors may also serve as teaching assistants for UNIV100 during the fall semester.  

Qualifications:  

a) 45- 65 cumulative credits (excluding AP) with at least 2 semesters enrolled in an AGNR major   

b) GPA of 3.0 or higher and c) enrolled as a full-time student in AGNR.  Additionally, the Mentors seek applicants who are "engaged" in one or more other aspects of university life; (study abroad, research, internships, organizations, sports) we want students who know how to manage time and make the best use of all that UMD has to offer!

Compensation:  You will be paid for 4 hours/week each term.  You will also find this experience immensely satisfying as you help new students find their way in our large university.  You will develop leadership skills as you contribute to the building of a course syllabus and participate actively in the teaching program.  You will establish new relationships with both students and faculty/administrators in the college (good source of reference letters when you are ready to apply for graduate school, professional school, or that first job).  The service will stand out on your resume. 

Date Available: The position begins August 28, with a training session approximately 1 week prior.

Summer 2017 Bats Internship

Looking for an internship opportunity

​ over Summer 2017?

 Enjoy working outdoors and road trips? 

​ UMD is looking for interns to drive specific routes throughout central Maryland most nights of June to record bat echolocation calls. The data you collect will help UMD Appalachian Lab and MDDNR learn which bat species are present during summer...which is extremely important.

If you are interested in this opportunity and willing to donate your time every night of June, you can earn a great skillset highly desired by employers, gas reimbursement, and fulfilling your internship requirement. Bright Futures Unpaid Internship Scholarship - DUE TODAY

The Bright Futures 'Unpaid Internship' Scholarship awards students with need-based scholarships ranging from $250-$1,250 to help offset expenses incurred during unpaid internships with non-profit organizations and government agencies.  The Bright Futures application for summer 2017 is open!
