Isabella Vaughn, 2025 GCA Engle scholar, has been studying recombination, which involves the exchange of genetic material between chromosomes during breeding of a unique hybrid population of muscadine grapes. Discoveries will help breeders predict which traits will be passed on in new hybrids. Funding for this project has been supported by The Corliss Knapp Engle Scholarship in Horticulture.
