Little Portion Farm just posted a role 🌟

Little Portion Farm is 3-acre nonprofit diversified fruit and vegetable farm using regenerative farming methods to promote soil health and support our farm ecosystem. Beyond a wide variety of annual crops, we have a small orchard, a berry patch, and several native wildflower habitats throughout the farm, which support a variety of pollinators and beneficial insects. We are a chemical-free, no-till farm that utilizes hand-scale techniques and dozens of volunteers to grow thousands of pounds of fresh produce each year, all of which is donated to people suffering from food insecurity in Baltimore.

Our Summer 2026 Ecological Agriculture Internship Program is an excellent opportunity for students interested in gaining hands-on experience in small-scale sustainable agriculture. Interns will work alongside the farm team, including volunteers and fellow interns, to participate in every aspect of our work, including greenhouse production, field planting, watering, weeding, bed preparation, harvesting, washing, and record-keeping.

The interns will receive training in all aspects of the sustainable agriculture methods used by the farm. They will also receive instruction to the ecological and soil health principles that guide these methods and have access to the farm’s library of resources.

Interns can expect to:

a)    Participate in all aspects of farm production, including bed preparation, planting, bed maintenance, watering, pruning, harvesting, washing, and record-keeping, under the direction of the Farm Manager.

b)   Participate in weekly sessions for gaining farm knowledge through observation, written reflection, and use of farm resources (including books and videos).

If your institution is able to offer credit for internships, we can accommodate any documentation needed and/or adapt the experience to fit your institution's specific requirements, if needed.

This is a unique experience to learn valuable gardening skills and get your hands dirty in a beautiful outdoor setting, as the farm is located on the grounds of the Shrine of St. Anthony in Ellicott City.

Interns will receive a $3,000 stipend, disbursed in increments throughout the summer. We are seeking three interns this summer. Housing is not provided.
