ATFS NETWORK MANAGER
AMERICAN FOREST FOUNDATION
Position Overview
The American Forest Foundation (AFF) seeks a highly motivated individual to join the ATFS team.  The ATFS Network Manager, in coordination with the Regional ATFS Managers, is responsible for building the capacity and managing the operations of the American Tree Farm System (ATFS) network of state programs.  The position will be located in Washington, DC.
The primary functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Manage capacity building efforts, strategic planning, and related communications, including quarterly webinars, monthly newsletters and ad hoc communications to the network of state programs and associated partner organizations.
  • Facilitate collaboration in network support, development and expansion among the four regions to share best practices, overcome barriers, evaluate programs, and test new ideas.
  • Responsible for all logistics, planning, and implementation of the annual National Leadership Conference, in conjunction with members of AFF’s conservation teams and the Community of Practice event. Lead the development and implementation of other network-wide events, as applicable.
  • Manage and administer the annual ATFS grants program, including identifying relevant project areas, requesting and reviewing proposals, awarding grant funds, and monitoring activity and reporting.
  • Manage and administer annual reporting and funding distributions for state programs.
  • In conjunction with key staff, administer relevant program budget.
  • In conjunction with the Regional ATFS Managers, provide regular and ongoing support to volunteers, state programs, landowners, and partners; answering inquiries, assisting with forms/processes, requests for materials, processing orders, etc., with support from the Woodlands Coordinator.
  • With support from the ATFS Certification Manager and Regional ATFS Managers, enhance and maintain an active corps of volunteer foresters through the development and implementation of effective training programs, manuals, materials, and regular communications.
  • With support from the ATFS Certification Manager and Regional ATFS Managers, develop and implement effective recruiting strategies to increase engagement among volunteer foresters.
  • Manage all logistics and processes for annual Tree Farmer of the Year, Inspector of the Year and National Leadership awards.
  • Manage ATFS document storage, and offsite storage and fulfillment, with support from the Information Manager.
  • In conjunction with the Information Manager, maintain ATFS websites for Committee, volunteers, and general information about ATFS.

Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. Three years of experience in forestry, or related environmental or natural sciences is preferred.

  • Experience working effectively with volunteers and staff
  • Demonstrated experience providing high quality customer service
  • Experience and proficiency with computerized information systems, including Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience working effectively with volunteers, board and staff members
  • Experience in planning for and arranging meetings
  • Expertise in coordinating travel logistics/schedules
