People’s Garden Initiative:

USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is looking for volunteers to assist with the People’s Garden, located outside of the USDA headquarters in Washington, DC. The site is easily accessible - only a block from the Metro! This initiative was started by our Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, during the Obama administration. Secretary Vilsack and the USDA team are now working to revitalize the People’s Garden to showcase what we do at USDA, raise awareness about sustainable agriculture practices, connect people with where their food comes from, and educate on protecting our environment and conserving resources. Volunteers are needed for a variety of activities such as garden preparation, planting, and maintenance. There are many days and times available for this opportunity with more details to come. This fun volunteer opportunity is offered through NRCS Maryland’s Earth Team Volunteer Program. The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) offers in field and in-office volunteer opportunities through the Earth Team Volunteer program. Maryland Sea Grant research internship

 

Maryland Sea Grant offers fifteen students the opportunity to conduct marine research on the Chesapeake Bay. During the 12-week program, each student works with a mentor on an individual research project. It’s a special opportunity to develop your research skills and interests by working with top science mentors studying America’s largest estuary.

Each REU fellow will receive:

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture at Mississippi State University (MSU) is seeking  applications for a full time, 12-month, non-tenure track Instructor focusing on training and outreach related  to Human-Wildlife Conflicts. The purpose of this position is to coordinate a wide range of training  activities for the USDA/APHIS Wildlife Services National Training Academy (NTA), a partnership  between USDA/APHIS/Wildlife Services and the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture at  MSU. Specifically, this position prepares, delivers, and evaluates professional development trainings for  Wildlife Services employees nationally. The mission of USDA/APHIS/Wildlife Services (WS) is to  provide Federal leadership and expertise to resolve wildlife conflicts to allow people and wildlife to  coexist. This position is supported by a long-term cooperative agreement between MSU and  USDA/APHIS Wildlife Services and continued employment is dependent upon future renewed funding. 

EXAMPLES OF WORK: 

Examples of work performed in this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Organizing, developing, and conducting training programs for employees of USDA/APHIS/Wildlife  Services. 

Training programs may include, but are not limited to, geospatial and mobile technologies, hazardous  materials, immobilization and euthanasia drugs, pesticides, animal care and handling, vehicles,  watercraft, zoonotic diseases, and other safety related trainings. 

Collaborating with USDA/APHIS/Wildlife Services to identify subject matter experts and  instructional design of courses; and development of peer-reviewed course curriculum for all training  activities. 

Planning and leading meetings, workshops, and presentations necessary for training completion,  including presenting to large groups of people in regional or national arenas. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree or higher in wildlife, natural resources, or training-related field. Extensive knowledge of  instructional design theory and implementation, curriculum development, and modern training  methods/techniques. Proven ability to complete full training cycle (needs assessment, plan, develop,  coordinate, monitor, and evaluate). Adequate knowledge of learning management systems and web  delivery tools. Candidate should be highly motivated with the ability to work independently. Strong verbal  and written communications skills are essential. The successful candidate should have advanced  organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments, proficiency in MS Office, and  familiarity with web-based training.

    • We are seeking a student or recent graduate to be a Research Intern for a one-of-a-kind project of developing an aligned set of food purchasing standards that centers racial equity, food sovereignty, and climate justice. DCA Scholarship

Delmarva Chicken Association has opened the application period for its 2022 College Scholarship Program. Applications are being accepted for undergraduate scholarships of $2,000 and graduate-degree scholarships of $3,000. Complete applications for these scholarships must be received by DCA no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022. DCA’s annual College Scholarship Golf Tournament supports these scholarship awards; this year’s tournament raised more than $20,000 for the scholarship fund. Since 1985, DCA has awarded more than $161,000 in scholarships.

“It’s an exciting time to be preparing for a career in the chicken community,” said Holly Porter, DCA’s executive director. “More than 20,300 jobs on Delmarva are directly tied to our chicken companies, and thousands more jobs are supported by the chicken economy. Purpose of the Position:  

University of Maryland Extension (UME) is seeking an Educator to provide coordination and programmatic  support for educational programs for youth, families and communities. The Educator would work with  volunteers and youth development agencies to provide experiential learning opportunities for youth, leading to  the development of life skills for youth. The Educator is also responsible for developing an active, ongoing  recruitment campaign to involve new volunteers and youth. As a professional track faculty member, the  Educator will be responsible for developing youth development programs in cooperation with colleagues across  the county and Southern Maryland cluster. The faculty member will be eligible for promotion in accordance  with University policy and UME professional track faculty guidelines within a timeframe defined.

Required: 

Bachelor’s degree in youth development, education, social science or related field Three or more years of experience in positive youth development and/or education. Demonstrated effectiveness and experience teaching diverse and underserved youth and adults in  community settings. 

Demonstrated success in developing, implementing and evaluating youth community education  programs. 

Demonstrated direct experience working with schools, afterschool and community programs. Demonstrated leadership, communication, program management and time management skills. Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and to travel within assigned  county, administrative cluster, and state.  

Personal transportation and valid driver’s license.

Nature of the Position: This position frequently presents information through vocal and written  communication to individuals of various ages, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds.  Physical Demands: A routine part of this position's responsibilities would be to transport materials to  and from teaching/event locations, including loading and unloading the vehicle.
