Graduate Assistantship: Maryland Sea Grant Research Program and Project Management

MDSG is seeking a Graduate Assistant (GA) to help support our research and administration team. This 20-hour-per-week position has a flexible schedule during business hours and will be located at our office in College Park, MD. The GA will be responsible for:

  • Supporting proposal and fellowship competitions, including advertising and recruitment, processing, submission, and review;
  • Supporting recruitment efforts and the application processes for the National Science Foundation funded Maryland Sea Grant Research Experiences for Undergraduates summer program and other fellowships;
  • Supporting the development of professional development events and Maryland Sea Grant workshops;
  • Collaborate on other special projects developed with the research team.

This position is for 20 hours/week and follows the UMCES General Stipend Levels (GRA II $33,641.75, GRA III $34,641.75 for 12 months). It includes health benefits and tuition remission (10 credit hours each for the Fall and Spring semesters, as well as 4 credit hours for Summer or Winter session).

Hollings Scholarship for Environmental Studies - Rising Sophomores!

Attention rising SOPHOMORES studying atmospheric and oceanic sciences, environmental engineering, environmental sciences or policy, or ANY major with a strong environmental focus!

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Hollings Scholarship provides two-year academic scholarships (up to a maximum of $9,500 per year) for full-time study, and a 10-week, full-time, paid internship position ($700/week) the summer after junior year at a NOAA facility. In the last eight years, 36 Maryland students have won Hollings Scholarships!

Plan Ahead for Your Fall 2023 NSF GRFP Application!

Are you planning to apply to STEM or social/behavioral sciences PhD programs this Fall 2023? Or will you be a 1st or 2nd year grad student in these fields in Fall 2023?

The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) provides 3 years of full support for PhD studies, with an annual stipend of $37,000, in science, math, engineering, and social/behavioral science fields. Recorded NSF Info Session #1 - Introduction: This session will introduce you to the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship program: what it is, who it's for, application components, how it's judged, and how you can prepare to apply effectively - whether you're applying this fall or in a few years.

Recorded NSF Info Session #2 - Writing the Essays: This session will discuss the two required essays - an intellectual/personal statement, and a mini research proposal. We'll cover what information needs to be in the essays, as well as strategies for writing them in a timely and effective way.

Eligibility: You must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident to apply for the NSF graduate research fellowship. You must be applying to, or enrolled in your 1st or 2nd year of graduate studies in an NSF supported field in Fall 2023. The details – Support diversity in environmental crime enforcement at EPA

Introduction

Help our Special Agent teams nationally recruit a diverse next generation of criminal environmental law enforcement agents for the Environmental Protection Agency Criminal Investigation Division (CID).

What you'll do

The EPA criminal enforcement program is part of EPA’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance (OECA). It is headquartered in Washington, DC, with field investigative offices in EPA’s 10 regional offices and in more than 30 other locations across the country. An EPA CID virtual intern will assist our Regionally based Special Agents in Charge (SACs) and Diversity Team members to inform regional and national audiences about the work of EPA Criminal Enforcement. They will also assist with recruiting professionals to conduct and support environmental crime enforcement. Your duties may include: • Working with the SACs and Diversity team to develop a recruiting plan for either national application or one of 10 EPA Regions • Researching existing undergraduate institutions and/or professional organizations to analyze and compare them against competing factors such as location, student/member diversity, criminal justice and/or environmental curriculum, etc. • Identifying and contacting potential recruiting partners and influencers, including professional organizations, affinity groups, and university career centers • Assisting with scheduling and advertising of the recruitment travel and events • Depending on travel or in-person event restrictions, supporting and participating in recruiting events at or near your campus by managing logistics, registering attendees, and taking photos • Serving as the SAC's principal point of contact for students and faculty on your campus • Developing social media content of national or regional interest • Analyzing data and metrics to measure outcomes

1 Year Lecturer Position at American University, Washington DC

Hey Terps intrested in teaching the next generation?

The Department of Environmental Science at American University has an open position for a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure-track professorial lecturer position, beginning August 28, 2023. The appointment is a 9-month term position (non-renewable) and will commence on August 28, 2023. The teaching load is three courses per semester (Fall and Spring; up to three different preps), likely including an introductory class for non-majors, a discussion-based seminar for first-year students, and an upper-level majors’ class in Environmental Health.

A Ph.D. in Environmental Science or a related field granted by the position start date is preferred, but strong candidates with a master’s degree or A.B.D. will also be considered.
