Seasonal Prescribed Fire  Job Opportunities: Squad Boss (FFT1) & Prescribed Fire Crew Member (FFT2) Westhampton Beach, NY The Central Pine Barrens Joint Planning and Policy Commission, through the Suffolk County Water Authority, is currently accepting applications for seasonal prescribed fire management crew members for the spring 2022 burn season (March-May, up to 37.5 hours /week) under the commission’s comprehensive prescribed fire program for the Central Pine Barrens region. Squad Boss (FFT1) Prescribed Fire Crew Member: Experience/qualifications/coursework in fire suppression, fire management, heavy equipment operation and/or related field to serve as a seasonal Squad Boss (first-line supervisory wildland firefighter) for prescribed fire operations. Candidate must meet or exceed Interagency Standards for firefighting operations as a Firefighter Type 1 (Squad Boss) with a minimum of 30 days on prescribed or wildfire serving in FFT1 leadership position. Seasonal Prescribed Fire Crew Member (FFT2): Experience/qualifications/course work in fire suppression, fire management and/or heavy equipment use or trade/interest in related fields (i.e. landscaping, agriculture, mechanics, forestry, arboriculture. etc.), to serve as a seasonal crew member for prescribed fire operations. Meets or has the ability to achieve (through on-the-job training) or exceeds Interagency Standards for Firefighting Operations as a Firefighter Type 2 (successful completion National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) S130 Firefighter Training/ S190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior). Housing may be available for candidates outside of Long Island.
