Sierra Club Garden Project Internship Description
With over 2.4 million members and supporters, the Sierra Club is one of our nation's largest grassroots conservation organizations. We seek to accomplish our mission statement, to explore, enjoy and protect the wild places of the Earth, through active education and promotion of the responsible use of the Earth's ecosystems.
The goal of the Sierra Club Garden Project is to use hands-on experiences and a multimedia platform to educate our membership and the broader public about the exciting developments in community gardens in Baltimore and to raise awareness about the intersections between community gardening, healthy eating and protecting our climate and water. Interns will advance the Project by supporting gardening activities, including but not limited to event outreach, leading educational activities, organizing volunteers, planning garden visits, and hands on work in the garden. Interns will get to know the landscape of school and community garden projects in the area, and be responsible for implementing a multimedia effort to raise awareness about the gardens and local leaders in each location. Interns will work under the direction of the Sierra Club’s Nearby Nature Director based in Washington, DC, and be paired with 2-3 garden project leaders on the ground for additional support.
The Sierra Club is an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse workforce.
Qualifications: This Internship includes direct work in the garden, outreach, research and writing. Applicants should be comfortable (and enthusiastic) about getting their hands dirty AND working in an office environment. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills, experience working with youth and the public, excel at social-media, possess solid writing skills, and have an academic or professional background or interest in gardening/agriculture, conservation, public health, education or marketing and communications (preferred, but not required). The Sierra Club Garden Project Internship is available for students (undergraduate, graduate and PhD candidates) currently enrolled in an institution of higher learning, living in or near Baltimore.
Thank you for applying for the Sierra Club Garden Project Internship. We are honored that you want to join our team. We will follow up with you directly if we are interested in your candidacy. No phone calls please.
