Direct Hire Position: Soil Scientist - VA

I am very excited to share with you an exciting entry-level soil scientist position that will be working directly for me out of our Richmond, VA office.  The primary work will involve wetland delineation for Food Security Act purposes (unfortunately the job description on USAJobs is a “cookie cutter” soil scientist job description and does not accurately reflect what the job entails).  We do work in some treacherous conditions in the coastal plain in the summer when it’s hot, the vegetation is dense, and the ticks and snakes are out.  This person will eventually work independently in isolated locations, so these are all things that the candidate should be aware of and comfortable with.  Qualified individuals preferably have wetland delineation experience or at least coursework in hydric soils and wetlands.  The candidate MUST have a minimum of 15 semester hours in soil science to qualify.  See below:

For the GS-05 levelDegree: soil science or a closely related discipline that included 30 semester hours or equivalent in biological, physical, or earth science, with a minimum of 15 semester hours in such subjects as soil genesis, pedology, soil chemistry, soil physics, and soil fertilityOR

Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in soil science or a related discipline that included at least 30 semester hours in the biological, physical, or earth sciences. At least 15 of these semester hours must have been in the areas specified above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Please feel free to reach out to me via email with questions.  Thank you!

Regards,

Allison Hammer
