Title: "Understanding Plant Defenses Against Vascular Herbivores”
Abstract: Aphids and phytoparasitic nematodes are both specialized to attack the vascular system of plants, and include many of the world’s most damaging crop pests. Dr. Goggin’s research explores plant interactions with these vascular herbivores, and the interplay between herbivore resistance and primary metabolism in plants. Recent areas of focus include the potential utility of plant-derived peptides and rhizobacteria for biological control of nematodes, and the influence of fatty acid metabolism, reactive oxygen species, and chloroplast signaling on host plant defenses against aphids.
