My name is Lisa Goodnight. I’m on the communications team here at Nature Forward (formerly Audubon Naturalist Society) reaching out about the Naturally Latinos Conference, a special networking opportunity that occurs every other year. #NaturallyLatinos is always about learning, growing, and celebrating together. On Jan. 24-28, 2024, we’ll gather under the theme: “Perteneciendo: Nuestras Raíces, Nuestra Tierra (Belonging: Our Roots, Our Earth)."
(Belonging: Our Roots, Our Earth)
Jan 24, 10:00AM - Jan 28, 2:00PM EST
The 5th Naturally Latinos Conference is themed “Perteneciendo: Nuestras Raíces, Nuestra Tierra (Belonging: Our Roots, Our Earth)." This multi-media experience will provide virtual (Wednesday and Thursday) and in-person (Friday) dialogue, presentations and performances focused on the needs and interests of the Washington, DC region and even national and international Latine environmental professionals, environmental justice advocates, educators, and nature enthusiasts. The conference will also include a weekend of immersive outdoor nature experiences appropriate to the time of year.
The 2024 #NaturallyLatinos speakers include:
-Dr. Jessica Hernandez, (Binnizá & Maya Ch'orti') Indigenous scholar and author of Fresh Banana Leaves. Here’s a short video by one of our planning committee members talking about Dr. Hernandez: https://www.facebook.com/
- MasPaz, a Colombian born multidisciplinary artist known for his distinctive street murals that explore topics of earth preservation and indigenous peoples.
- Serenella Linares, the principal park naturalist managing Mount Rainier Nature Center. She established a collaboration with the Mycological Association of Washington DC to bring DNA research experiments to the center. Serenella is Puerto Rican.
We hope students, postdocs, faculty, and campus staff will take advantage of the chance to get their Early-bird tickets: https://hopin.com/events/
