Research Scholar in Natural 

Capital & Ecosystem Services 

Full Time | Hybrid Work

will lead and develop a research program focused on natural capital 

and ecosystem services that will support environmental management decisions. The work will also be embedded in The Natural Capital Project, a partnership between the University of Minnesota, Stanford University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Stockholm Resilience Center, The Nature Conservancy, and the World Wildlife Fund. 

We are looking for a colleague at any career stage who: 

Has an impactful record of research products or publications, such as reports, training materials, peer-reviewed publications, patent filings, software documentation, policy memos, and/or decision support tools; 

Is an effective fundraiser who both leads and contributes to projects; 

Can engage scholars and professionals across the University to co-produce creative, fundable, and impactful projects to advance sustainability outcomes; and 

Collaborates with governments, Tribes, international development organizations, NGOs, or businesses to support integration of ecosystem services into decision-making.

the needle on community, state, national, or private sector sustainability decisions and impacts. We are open to a range of sustainability topics and methods that adopt a systems research approach. The Research 

Scholar's work will center collaboration and interdisciplinary 

perspectives both within and outside the University to support more 

sustainable societal decision-making processes.

The Research Scholar in Energy Transition will lead the Institute's energy transition research portfolio. UMN has current expertise in renewable 

energy integration, energy storage, demand side technologies, and utility regulation; we would be looking to build expertise in these and other areas related to just and equitable clean energy. In partnership with decision makers, practitioners, and community members, we will collectively make the Midwest’s energy systems a global model for developing a prosperous and just carbon-neutral economy.
