Job Description- The Clemson University Wildlife and Fisheries Program is seeking one seasonal technician to assist a graduate student with a study on fall foraging site selection, roost site selection, and torpor patterns of tri-colored bats (Perimyotis subflavus) in northwestern South Carolina near Clemson. Work will be conducted in the Andrew Pickens Ranger District (APD) of the Sumter National Forest. The start date will be September 1st, and work will continue through November 1st (dates are approximate). This is a 40-hr/week position with irregular hours; most work being conducted after dark. A field vehicle will be provided but there will be no housing accommodations.
Primary job duties include:
Assist with the capturing and tagging of bats in the APD
Tracking radio-tagged bats to roost sites on a daily basis
Collecting torpor data by setting up monitors at roost trees
Collecting habitat/vegetation data
Placing acoustic detectors at designated locations throughout the APD
Maintaining equipment
Completing data entry
Performing WNS decontamination procedures

Qualifications-
Must have a B.S. in Wildlife Biology, Conservation Biology, Zoology, or another related field
Must be comfortable working collaboratively or independently if asked to
Must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic
Strong organizational skills
Proficient at orienteering
Must be comfortable walking long distances in rough terrain
Must be comfortable working after dark in unpleasant weather
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must be a U.S. citizen
Additional experience that is preferred but not required: radio-telemetry proficiency, knowledge of acoustic monitoring, mist-netting experience, bat handling experience, and use of handheld GPS units. Minorities and other underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
