The Agroecology lab (www.agroecolab.org) at University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) is seeking a field and lab technician to lead measurement of greenhouse gases from the Alternative Crops and Renewable Energy (ACRE) Delmarva project (www.acredelmarva.org). The research project focuses on building a new market for grass crops that can be used as feedstock for anaerobic digestion and methane production. The management of these grass crops will also help build soil carbon stocks and thus lead to a more carbon-neutral economy. The greenhouse gas technician will be in charge of all in-field greenhouse gas sampling events at the Lower Eastern Shore Research and Education Center (LESREC). This requires collection of greenhouse gases using the static chamber method for point sampling as well as continuous flow-through analyzers. The technician will assist with field and laboratory work such as biomass collection, sample processing and analysis as required by the project. This position will be physically located at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (Princess Anne, MD). However, the technician may be required to travel to the University of Maryland College Park for training and laboratory work.
