AGNR Career Programs & Events


Career Day with USDA seeks to connect students with professional within the US Department of Agriculture. Student attending this event will: 
 
1. learn more about career paths and titles within the Department 
2. Network with professionals from a variety of agencies (including but not limited to: Economic Research Service, Agricultural Research Service, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Food and Nutrition Service, etc.) 
3. Identify key skills and competencies needed for a successful careers within the federal government.

Intern For a Day
Intern for a Day connects undergraduate UMD students with alumni, parents, employers and community partners for one day job shadowing experiences.
 
Employers of interest to AGNR students include:
  • Bell Nursery 
  • SiteOne Landscape Supply 
  • University of Maryland Chesapeake Bay Program Office 
  • US Army Corps of Engineers, Institute for Water Resources 
  • US Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service  
  • Baltimore Environmental Police 
  • Georgetown University, Department of Energy and Utilities  
In order to receive an application to participate in Intern for a Day, students must attend an informative, 30-minute orientation session.

To help you with your internship search, we will discuss:
  • Specific resources available to research internship opportunities in non-profit, government and corporate sectors
  • Quick tips on making a positive first impression on resumes and during interviews
  • Strategies to connect with UMD alumni working within your intended career field

his panel seeks to inform students about career paths within agricultural extension. Agricultural extension is the application of scientific research and knowledge to agricultural practices through education. The panel will feature professionals in agriculture, environmental & natural resources, food safety and systems, and youth development. Students will also get the opportunity to network and learn about potential volunteer, internship and job opportunities.
