What is extension? Agricultural extension is the application of scientific research and knowledge to agricultural practices through education. Extension Agents are employed by land-grant universities and serve the citizens of that particular state by serving as an expert or teacher on a agricultural topics. The University of Maryland Extension (UME) reaches all parts of Maryland with an office in every county and Baltimore City. The four program areas include 4-H Youth Development, Agriculture & Food Systems, Environment & Natural Resources, Family & Consumer Sciences. Positions within extension range from Extension Educators, to Extension Specialist and Extension Faculty.
