Park Ranger-Prince George's County

Location: Prince George's County, MD

Description: The Department of Parks and Recreation , a six times Gold Medal winner of excellence, manages over 44 square miles of parkland throughout Prince George's County, Maryland. This includes 46 community centers,  hundreds of community and neighborhood parks, waterfront parks, nature and sports facilities, regional parks, paved and natural  surface  trails, historic sites and a variety of other resources. Within the amazing park and recreation system, the Park Ranger Unit is responsible for all wildlife calls, natural resource enforcement, park operations support, special event planning and support, conservation and natural resources management, educational outreach efforts, wildlife management, hunting and deer management program, and many other related tasks. 


Duties:
  • Conduct interpretive, recreational, safety, and school-based educational programs.
  • Research and implement natural resources and conservation projects.
  • Serve on internal and external working groups and committees.
  • Provide visitor services support.
  • Patrol and inspect park properties and facilities to ensure and compliance with park rules throughout the County.
  • Issuing of Parking and Adult Civil Citations and defending in District Court.
  • Work with Park Police on events, park operations, deer management, and patrols.
  • Responsible for addressing nuisance and injured wildlife issues.
  • Emergency response for snow and other weather related problems with feeding of animals at nature centers and farm, snow and tree removal, and inspection of facilities and parks.
  • Responsible for monitoring hunting and fishing activities to ensure compliance and issue citations when appropriate.
  • Conduct First Aid / CPR as needed.
  • Support oversight of a number of park sites with developing programs and maintaining overall condition of the sites.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Park Administration, Park Management, Natural Science, Public Administration or related subjects; or
  • Associates Degree in related discipline and 2 years of progressively responsible experience in one of these areas; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must pass Commission medical examination.
  • Valid driver's license.
