Description: Restoration of the Chesapeake Bay requires committed, passionate and diverse individuals. The Chesapeake Research Consortium (CRC) seeks such an individual for a three-year appointment to provide support the Chesapeake Bay Program partnership’s Scientific, Technical Assessment and Reporting (STAR) Team.
Responsibilities: The candidate selected for this position will be intimately involved with STAR team activities and those of its workgroups such as the the Modeling Workgroup, Status and Trends Team, Criteria Assessment Protocols Workgroup, and Integrated Trends Analysis Team. Candidates should expect to engage in work such as coordination and logistics, data analysis and tracking, literature reviews and communication product development. Candidates can expect to take on independent or team projects that could include analytical work, communication and outreach, or research. Candidates have the opportunity to make presentations on their work or the work of the STAR team and workgroups at a variety of meetings and are encouraged to evolve their work for conference presentations. Candidates will also support STAR’s involvement in the Strategy Review System process to track progress toward achieving Chesapeake Bay restoration goals and outcomes, including coordinating Chesapeake Bay Program partnership reviews and consolidating feedback. The selected candidate will work as a CRC employee at the U.S. EPA’s Chesapeake Bay Program Office located in Annapolis, Maryland.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree with a focus on natural or environmental science and/or policy (or a related area of study). Familiarity with biology, environmental chemistry, hydrology, climate change, or environmental monitoring programming is a plus.
- Familiarity with laboratory or field environmental sampling quality control/quality assurance protocols is a plus.
- Ability to research, organize and synthesize complex science and policy information for use by leadership.
- Possess skills in any of the following: basic statistical analysis, organizing, conducting and reporting on field or lab research, GIS, coding languages (e.g. R, Python, etc.), or web-development.
- Ability to collaborate with a range of partners and stakeholders as part of interdisciplinary teams representing a variety of interests, in an environment meant to build consensus.
- Provide support by independently planning meetings, developing agendas, drafting concise meeting minutes, and tracking action items.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with diverse partners at all levels of program activities with diplomacy.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks under tight timelines in a fast-paced office environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve.
- Ability to manage and update content for group web pages using a content management system.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Experience with Microsoft Access is a plus.
- Familiarity with using remote meeting technologies such as video conferencing (Web-X, Adobe Connect, etc.).
- Interest in learning how a diverse, governmental-environmental-management partnership makes decisions effectively and sets and achieves goals through collaborative and regulatory processes.
