MS in Bat ecology at Univ.of Nebraska at Omaha

 Dr. Han Li’s Bat Ecology Lab (https://sites.google.com/view/dr-lis-adventure-of-bat-ecolog/ or https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3627-5941) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) is actively seeking a highly motivated MS student to join the research team. This student will take the lead on a USFWS-funded project, evaluating the impact of white-nose syndrome on bats in eastern Nebraska through acoustic surveys. The student is encouraged to utilize baseline survey data to develop their independent research project. This position will be funded by a combination of graduate teaching assistantship and research assistantship for two years, including a stipend ($19,000 - $21,000 per year including summer), tuition waiver, and a discount for the university mandatory student insurance policy. The anticipated start date is May 2024.

 

As a candidate, you must:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in biology or wildlife, or a similar degree by the start date, with a competitive GPA.
  • Possess a valid US driver's license, with two or more years of driving experience and a clean driving record.
  • Be willing to travel frequently by driving during the field season.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic with organizational and planning skills.
  • Be capable of working independently and in a team environment with members from diverse backgrounds.

Preference will be given to candidates who:

  • Have previously worked as a full-time wildlife field technician.
  • Have conducted bat acoustic surveys in the past.
  • Are from Nebraska or neighboring states and possess knowledge of local fauna, flora, and landscapes.
  • Have strong analytical skills proven by coursework and/or publications.
