New Environmental Justice Group Being formed--first meeting

Are you interested in working on social and environmental justice issues? Are you interested in pressing environmental issues that differentially impact marginalized and disadvantaged groups including? Are you interesting in become more civically engaged and advocating for social change locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally? Are you interesting in building a more inclusive, diverse, and transformative environmental movement?
If you are, please join 17 for Peace and Justice, a new interest group dedicated to expand the environmental justice movement on the College Park campus, Prince Georges County, state of Maryland, Washington, DC region, the United States, and other countries. This organization will seek to empower students and other stakeholders and build community capacity to address social, economic, and political injustice and related environmental and health inequalities by using the 17 Principles of Environmental Justice established at the First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit held on October 24-27, 1991, in Washington DC as the overarching framework  (http://www.ejnet.org/ej/principles.html).
The first meeting is scheduled for February 15th from 6-7:30 pm in the SPH Student Lounge.  Light refreshments will be served. 
At this first meeting, we will discuss the 17 Principles of Environmental Justice, the purpose of the interest group, status of the application to become an official student organization, and opportunities to work on environmental justice issues, to be a part of the environmental justice movement including the upcoming People's Climate March April 29th.
