Director - Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station

Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Research and Associate Director of the Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES), the Director will be responsible for the administration and operation of three (3) Research and Education Centers (RECs) consisting of seven (7) facilities, one (1) of which will be the headquarters for the Director. The Director will provide overall leadership for administrative decisions, development of budgets, strategic planning, and coordination and/or partnering with stakeholders, both internal and external. Agricultural research and education programs are being conducted and supported in these RECs on a variety of species and production systems, and represent a diverse physiographic and topographic characteristics of land resources in Maryland.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Biology, Horticulture or related fields
• Seven years or more of progressively responsible experience managing research and administration in an agricultural setting, including personnel and budget management
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public as required
• Able to organize field activities and interact with stakeholders
• Competence using Microsoft and University software programs (e.g., Email, etc.)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license, in good standing



Preferences
• Experience in managing agricultural research and education activities in a Land-grant institution.
• Familiarity with state policies related to Nutrient Management and best management practices (BMPs) for sustainable agriculture.
• Experience with a diversity of production systems, e.g., animal, crop systems or combination thereof. 
• Knowledge of agronomic and organic farming practices.
