ENST Internship

Dr. Dave Tilley’s Ecosystem Engineering Design Lab in the Environmental Science and
Technology Department (ENST) is looking to hire 2 interns for this Spring and Summer to
help with a project, “Development of a smart solar irrigation controller for Living Umbrellas”,
supported by the Maryland Industrial Partnerships (MIPs). The aim of the project is to design
and test the second generation of smart solar irrigation controller.

Interns will assist with:
● component assembly (electronics, frames, irrigation systems),
● umbrella installations and maintenance at Mid-Atlantic sites,
● packaging for common carrier shipping,
● plant care and green house maintenance at the Terp Farm in Upper Marlboro,
● CAD drawing parts and assemblies,
● workshop upkeep and
● other related duties as needed
Requested Skills:
● licensed to drive and have your own transportation
● competent in using hand tools (e.g. screwdrivers, wrenches, knives),
● ability to use power tools (e.g., cordless drills, heat guns, drill press),
● basic understanding of direct current electronics,
● ability to lift 100 lbs to your waist,
● proficient with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, Sketchup, etc),
● familiar with plant care
● ability to work outside for 8 hours per day
● ability to communicate effectively

Pay: $10.10 per hour

Start Date: April 29, 2019
End Date: September 1 (Internship can be extended through Fall semester if there is interest).
Work Hours: during semester up to 10 hours per week. During Summer 30-40 h/wk.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday with a rare nee to work on Saturday or Sunday.
