AGNR Graduate Assistant Position: 12-month

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR), Academic Programs Office seeks a Graduate Assistant (GA) who will provide administrative support for the Assistant Dean of Academic Programs & Director of Retention, Diversity and Special Initiatives. The graduate assistant will coordinate and support academic activities related to academic advising, orientation, retention, diversity initiatives, and AGNR graduation. This position is an excellent fit for a graduate student who is passionate about actively participating in the academic success of undergraduate students. The GA’s duties are noted below. This is a 12 month, 20 hours per week, graduate assistantship position. This position will require some weekend and evening work. Start date May 2020.

Job Duties
• Prepare for and present at AGNR undergraduate student orientation programs and change of major workshops
• Assist with junior and senior graduation audits
• Assist with management of AGNR Exceptions to Academic Policies
• Planning of SROP and Ag Discovery Programs
• Provide administrative support for the duration of Ag Discovery, July 13-31, 2020.
• Serve as an Ag Discovery chaperone, July 13-31.
• Serve as AGNR Summer Research Opportunity Graduate Assistant, SROP (requires living in paid campus housing summer I and II- May 23-July 31)
• Serve as an administrative advisor for Minorities in Agriculture and Natural Resources (MANRRS)
• Understand and implement federal, state, and university policies (i.e. FERPA)
• Utilize Advise on the Web and SIS to maintain student records
• Process periodic updates to Ac Pro website
• Assist with other duties as assigned

Employment Periods:
Summer I & II: June – July 2020
Fall: August – December 2020
Spring: January – May 2021

Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in a graduate program of the University of Maryland, College Park for the period of the appointment
• Ability to write and speak English fluently and clearly
• Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact well with a diverse group of undergraduates, faculty, and college administrators and peers
• Strong presentation skills
• Ability to be dependable, flexible, organized and self-motivated
• Demonstrated understanding of and experience working with students in an academic setting, including knowledge of FERPA
• General administrative skills and computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management (prefer MS Word, Excel, and Access)

Preferences:
• Experience with SIS and Advise on the Web
• Experience with the University of Maryland campus academic advising
• Experience performing administrative work in higher education
• Experience working with diversity and inclusion initiatives
• Enrolled in a STEM graduate program

Salary and Benefits
The salary will be commensurate with the graduate student pay rate/scale for The University of Maryland and will depend on qualifications. Tuition remission benefits for 10 credits for the fall and spring. You will have an opportunity to select from several health insurance, dental and prescription plans.
