Smithsonian Gardens Summer 2020 Internships

Information about upcoming summer internships related to horticulture, plant sciences, science communication and integrated pest management.

As the Plant Health Specialist at the Smithsonian Gardens I will be again mentoring at least one intern this summer. The plant health specialist intern will get hands on practice with insect and pest identification, integrated pest management strategies, and implementation of biological controls across the Smithsonian campus. They will also get opportunities to work with sustainability groups on campus, add data and input into our GIS scouting programs, and participate in public outreach events.

Here is the link to our website that lists all of our available internships for this year:

Some additional information. The internship usually runs from 8-12 weeks depending on students’ schedules and begin anytime in May or June. Students will receive weekly stipends dependent on need if they are selected.

One point of note, we have decided to extend our application deadline. Potential interns may submit the online portion of their applications until February 15th. If additional time is needed to submit materials such as letters of recommendations or transcripts, students may contact us by emailing me (Holly Walker) at walkerh@si.edu so that we keep them in the applicant pool.
