Idaho Panhandle National Forest hiring Soils Techs for 2022 Summer Season

The Idaho Panhandle National Forest is looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to fill a temporary (seasonal) biological science technician position for the upcoming 2022 field season. Openings will be available at the GS 4 and 5 level and are for positions with a maximum six-month tour of duty (not to exceed 1,039 hours). The starting dates of the positions are anticipated to be between mid-May and early June, 2022.

HOW TO APPLY:
Vacancy announcements will be open in USA Jobs between November 5th and November 12th, 2021. All applications must be submitted through the USA Jobs Website. Vacancy announcement numbers for the positions being hired are listed below. If you have questions about a certain position, contact the individuals listed below. If you have having difficulty applying for jobs through the USAJOBS website, you may also contact the Albuquerque Service Center-Human Capital Management at 1-877-372-7248,
option 2, for assistance.

The job is a field-going position that will require rigorous off-trail hiking throughout the Idaho Panhandle National Forest to collect field data on the soil condition using the Forest Soils Disturbance Monitoring Protocol. We use digital data collection methods using tablet-based Survey 123 and Collector to catalogue and geospatially reference data. We use this data to inform land management decisions. We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and passionate about the outdoors. We anticipate being able to provide opportunities to cross train with other resources, including attending guard school to get a firefighting certification (red-card). I am happy to answer any questions folks have, including questions about the hiring process, position, duty location, or just about the Forest Service in general.
