funded MS and PhD positions

Here is a good opportunity for anyone interested in funded graduate student position in wetland ecology.

MS and PhD Assistantships in Ecology/Biogeochemistry
                                                      University of Central Florida

The Aquatic Biogeochemistry Lab at the University of Central Florida (Orlando, FL, USA) is recruiting both an MS and PhD student to begin Fall 2023. Both positions are fully funded through a combination of GTA and GRA support to study the ecological functions of wetlands and coastal ecosystems in Florida. Specifically, our lab focuses on the biogeochemical cycling of energy and nutrients at the soil-water interface and how these cycles are affected by stressors (e.g., sea level rise, vegetation shifts, hydrologic alteration) and restoration activities (e.g., beneficial dredge placement, oyster reef restoration).

Interested applicants should review our lab website and past publications for more information. An ideal candidate will hold a BS (for the MS position) or MS (for the PhD position) in Biology, Environmental Science, Soil Science, Coastal Science, or a related discipline. Strong performance in relevant coursework and past research experience are key. Good written and oral communication skills, a willingness to work hard and learn new things, self-motivation, and a positive attitude are also important for success.

If you would like to apply, email me at: lisa.chambers@ucf.edu. Include in your email, 1) why you are interested in joining my lab (i.e., how your research interests and experiences fit with what we are currently studying), 2) what topics or questions you hope to research during your graduate education, and 3) an attachment that includes a current copy of your CV/resume indicating your GPA. Please put “prospective grad student” in the subject line.

Note the application deadline for the 2023 Fall semester is December 1, 2022. Applicants should seek encouragement to apply from Dr. Chambers first. Applications are submitted to the UCF Department of Biology online and require a B.S. degree in Biology or related discipline, a GPA > 3.0 (or international equivalent), three strong and letters of recommendation, a CV / résumé, and an Essay / Personal Statement.
