We have a grant-supported (UMD Sustainability Fund) internship available at WyeREC this summer. We are looking for two students who will work with i-Tree, which is a tree assessment program to evaluate the benefits of trees, especially in and around buildings. We hope there are some ENST and AGNR students interested.

University of Maryland Wye Research and Education Center is seeking two undergraduates who want to gain experience in agroecology field and laboratory research in summer 2023.
The project will focus on the trees located at the Wye Research and Education Center’s 1,000-acre property. Our research this summer will record and analyze the impact of trees, their ecosystem served, potential energy savings, and their contribution to a healthy ecosystem and a sustainable campus.
Duties and expectations:
Tree identification
Tree measurement
Collect, record, and enter research data
Become familiar with the iTree software
Analyze the collected data using the iTree software
Create recommendations based on the results of the iTree program outputs
Qualifications
Minimum: Coursework in biology, familiarity with plants and trees, ability to use computer software, willingness to work outside in warm temperatures and various weather conditions, walking/standing long hours on occasional uneven terrain while carrying tools and recording implements, and overall eagerness to learn about trees!
Salary: $15 an hour, 40 hours per week
Timeline: June 5th- August 18th, 2023
