Recruiting graduate students - Conservation Science and Urban Ecology Lab, UMass Boston School for the Environment

 Dear colleagues,

Hope you are well. As of September 1st, I started a new position as Assistant Professor at the School for the Environment at the University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston), where I am building the Conservation Science and Urban Ecology Lab. I am currently recruiting new graduate students (MS and PhD) to join my research group starting Fall 2026. Prospective students should have an interest in the ecological, social, and/or biocultural dimensions of conservation in human-dominated environments.

Examples of broad areas for project development include:
  • Wildlife/fish harvest and trade in global cities (e.g. New York City, Boston)
  • Impacts of coastal development/urbanization on biological and cultural diversity (e.g. Costa Rica)
  • Human-wildlife interactions and conservation in the urbanizing Amazon (Iquitos, Peru)

If you know of a prospective graduate student who may be interested in these or similar topics, please feel free to share this information/direct them my way. More information can be found on my lab website: cjriveralab.com
