POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Title:  Agent Associate
Working Title:  Agent Associate (Small Farm/Alternative Agriculture Educator)

Unit: AGNR-UME-Carroll County

Location: University of Maryland Extension - Carroll County, 700 Agricultural Center Drive, Westminster, MD 21157

Position Purpose:
The position will work in support of the Carroll County Agricultural Extension Program.  The Educator will provide coordination and programmatic support for, small farm and alternative agriculture activities in Carroll County, including collaboration on educational programs among partners, outreach to clientele, and related activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide citizens interested in  Small Farm/Alternative Agriculture enterprises with educational opportunities related to agricultural production, budgeting, and marketing,
  • Cooperate with Extension Educators and Specialists, to facilitate the creation and distribution of research-based information and knowledge to Small Farm/Alternative Agriculture Educator in Carroll County, including current and potential farmers and regional groups collaborating on agriculture development, marketing, business planning and related community issues
  • Assist in collecting, reporting and evaluating Small Farm/Alternative Agriculture programs in accordance with funding requirements and UMD policy
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with agricultural organizations and beginning farmers to plan, implement, and evaluate programs and seek new partnerships to deliver outreach education
  • Responsible for preparing newsletter for regular distribution

Qualifications:

Required–
  • Bachelor's Degree in agriculture or related field
  • Working knowledge of agriculture and farming issues
  • Applicants must be self-motivated, flexible, innovative, and resourceful with skills and experience in conducting community-based education programs
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Experience working with diverse audiences of all socio-economic levels
  • Knowledge and use of computer technology for educational programming and management
  • Flexible working hours required; must be available for evening and weekend programs and meetings
  • A valid driver's license and access to an automobile for travel
  • This position is subject to a Criminal History Record Check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion and clearance of the Criminal History Record Check.
Preferences–
  • Master's Degree
  • Experience in agricultural program planning and collaborative work with other organizations
  • Experience in writing grants and securing funds for projects





Salary & Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience, with a base salary of $34,275 for this full-time position. The University of Maryland offers benefits.
