Coordinator, AGNR Student Services
Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Coordinator for Academic Services provides administrative direction in support of many aspects related to undergraduate programs in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. This position reports to and works directly with the Assistant Dean for Academic Programs to coordinate and support academic activities related to academic advising, orientation, retention, diversity initiatives, and AGNR graduation. All duties are performed with only general supervision. Initiative and independent decision-making are necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S/B.A. required. Three (3) years of experience directly related to undergraduate academic advising, retention and/or diversity initiatives. Proficiency with office computer applications including Microsoft Office and Excel. Must be able to create summary-data sets and reports related to AGNR programs and students. Ability to use web development tools to create and maintain websites. Must work independently and using good judgment in relation to interpretation and application of university policy. Written communication and public speaking skills are a must. Must be willing and able to work occasional weekends and evenings.
Preferences:
Master’s degree preferred. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students and administrators in a broad range of situations. Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of student development and academic success. Ability to work with university student-related database systems e.g. SIS, Advise on the Web, UAchieve or Degree Navigator and website development tools (Drupal) and Adobe Creative suite. Experience planning large events such as graduation ceremonies or conferences.
Duties 35%
Oversee undergraduate college-level student advising and student tracking with regard to progress toward degree completion and bench marking. Plan, coordinate and implement administrative procedures critical to student services. Conduct audit of student records for General Education requirements. Coordinate with department-level advisors for major curriculum audits.
Duties: 30 %
Assist students with academic planning, major changes, campus resources and exceptions to academic policy. Oversee exceptions to academic policy and permission to enroll processes, maintain student records, and ensure accuracy and security of all confidential information.
Duties 15%
Plan, coordinate and conduct summer and spring student orientation programs as well as AGNR spring and winter commencement ceremonies. Compose and prepare documents and reports vital to office functions in the aforementioned areas. Represent the College at campus level meetings on behalf of the Assistant Dean for Academic Programs.
Duties 15%
Assist with the planning and coordination of diversity and retention initiatives. Create and manage diversity and retention websites. Assist with Minorities in Agriculture and Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) student group. Teach one section of UNIV100.
Duties 5%
Assist with training AGNR department level coordinators and advisors. Serve on the UM Advising Planning Committee. Remain current on university policies and procedures. Cross train on various AGNR functions. Other duties as assigned.
