This position is located at the Center for Environmental Science-Appalachian Laboratory, University of Maryland (UMCES-AL), Frostburg, MD, which is the host university for the Chesapeake Watershed Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CW-CESU). This position is supervised by the Associate Regional Director, Resource Stewardship and Science, National Capital Region (NCR), National Park Service (NPS).
Duties
  • Develop and implement an integrated program of natural, cultural, and social science resource, education, and technical assistance in support of the resource management responsibilities of NPS parks and other areas of NPS responsibility within the Chesapeake watershed, with an emphasis on climate change.
  • Coordinate all NPS/federal agency programs working with CW-CESU academic partners through UMCES-AL.
  • Serve as a liaison with other federal research and land management agencies.
  • Develop partnerships and secure outside sources of support from federal, state, academic, and private organizations in conducting cooperative research, education, and technical support.
  • Provide the NPS with technical leadership in an integrated program of research, technical assistance, and education at the regional and service wide levels.
  • Evaluates all CW-CESU products to ensure applicability to the parks needs.
  • Develops and submits annual work plans and request for funding for the CW-CESU to the Associate Regional Director, Resource Stewardship and Science.
  • Fully participates with the Office of Resource Stewardship and Science, which includes both natural and cultural resource divisions, with first-and second-level supervisors/managers, in strategic planning, developing current and future project proposals, and budget justifications.
  • Accounts for and is responsible for expenditures for all allocated to CW-CESU.
  • Provides advice and consultation to each of the parks on resource management issues within the coordinator's area of expertise.
