Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This position is located in Princess Anne, Maryland (Somerset County). This position is located in Princess Anne, Maryland (Somerset County). The 4-H Agent Associate for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (4-H STEM) is responsible for planning and implementing educational STEM programs using Extension teaching methods, materials, volunteer adult, and youth leaders; designed with community input to provide opportunities for youth and adults to grow into responsible, productive citizens able to assume community leadership roles. The 4-H STEM Agent Associate will provide leadership for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive, innovative youth and adult educational programs in STEM. The 4-H STEM Agent Associate will facilitate leadership development programs designed to meet the needs and interests of a diverse, under-served audience of youth ages 5-18 and adult volunteers. The 4-H STEM Agent Associate will function as an active member of the University of Maryland Extension-1890 Program 4-H STEM team working under the direction of the 1890 Extension Administrator or his/her designee. The 4-H STEM Agent Associate represents University of Maryland Extension (UME), the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and the University of Maryland at College Park. In carrying out these duties, the individual is to responsible to the lower shore Area Extension Director, 1890 Extension Administrator, and the 4-H State Leader. This position requires demonstrable program accomplishments which align with the 1890 mission via counsel with the 1890 Extension Administrator. Daily supervision of this position will be by the Area Extension Director with additional programmatic reporting to the 1890 Extension Administrator or his/her designee.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide coordination and administration of the UME Volunteer Policy Training, 4-H enrollment system, program fiscal management and reporting, legal and liability issues, 4-H club and program planning, recognition of volunteers and youth, 4-H emblem and name use.
  • Provide leadership to build the capacity of the 4-H program through expansion, volunteer development, and to increase adult and youth partnerships in programming.
  • Identify opportunities and needs for youth and adult audiences, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs based on identified needs and interests, teach knowledge and skills within program areas such as team building, leadership, and other related skills to volunteers and youth.
  • Develop resources through grants, local funding sources and collaborative funding proposals.
  • Collaborate with local agencies and organizations to promote the delivery of 4-H youth development program materials and activities.
  • Work with other faculty, staff, volunteers, and the Extension Advisory Board to plan and implement an integrated local Extension program.
  • Increase the visibility of Extension within the lower shore to reach diverse communities and audiences.
  • Contribute articles and relevant impacts for various annual reporting venues.







Qualifications:
Required –
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics or Education.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness and experience teaching in a community setting.
  • Demonstrated achievement in developing, implementing, and evaluating community education programs targeting youth.
  • Demonstrated teaching, leadership, communication, program management and time management skills.
  • Personal transportation and valid driver’s license; willing to travel as needed throughout MD, although most of travel will be local.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook.
  • Requires flexible work hours, to include some weekends and evenings as needed for meetings and programs.
  • This position is subject to a Criminal History Record Check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion and clearance of the Criminal History Record Check.
Preference –
  • Master’s Degree

Additional Information:
In Maryland, there are two Land-grant institutions.  The 1862 Land-grant University is University of Maryland-College Park (UMD) and the 1890 Land-grant institution is University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), Princess Anne, MD.  In Maryland, the activities known as “Extension” are conducted by one entity identified as University of Maryland Extension (UME), and UME is the result of a partnership between UMD and UMES. UME is a statewide, non-formal education system with educational programs and problem-solving assistance practices which are available to citizens and are based on the research and experience of the Land-grant universities.
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is a Land-grant, historically black university founded in 1886 as the Delaware Conference Academy. Since its beginning, the institution has had several name changes and governing bodies. It was Maryland State College from 1948 until 1970, when it became one of the five campuses that formed the University of Maryland.  In 1988, it became a member of the then eleven campus (now thirteen) University of Maryland System, now known as the University System of Maryland. UMES is approved by the state of Maryland and fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.  This advertised position is 100% funded by UMES.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience, with base salary of $41,105. The University of Maryland offers an extensive benefits package.
