Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This is a 12-month, term appointment, 40 hours per week position. The position will work in support of the Carroll County 4-H Youth Development Extension Program. The Educator will provide coordination and programmatic support for Environmental Sciences and 4-H Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (4-H STEM) activities in Carroll County, including collaboration on educational programs among partners, outreach to clientele, and related activities. Successful candidate should demonstrate a willingness to bring innovative ideas and increased collaboration across program areas in Carroll County to help support youth/volunteer development. The position will be located in the University of Maryland Extension-Carroll County Office in Westminster, Maryland.
Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and evaluate an informal educational program in 4-H youth development based on the Maryland 4-H Youth Development model, focusing in the areas of environmental science, natural resources and the mechanical sciences.
Cooperate with county 4-H Extension faculty in providing leadership in the development of educational environmental stewardship programs for youth delivered through the county 4-H residential camping program and 4-H shooting sports program.
Develop, implement and evaluate school enrichment opportunities (in-school and after-school) with an emphasis on, but not limited to, 4-H STEM education including robotics and environmental education enrichment.
Create opportunities for youth to demonstrate and evaluate their project knowledge and recognize youth for their accomplishments and achievements.
Recruit and train adult volunteers and teen leaders to conduct and provide educational programs for the Carroll County 4-H program.
Expand the 4-H Club program by assisting with creation of new clubs and recruiting new members
through community outreach opportunities.
Take advantage of educational opportunities in youth development and assigned subject areas to
maintain an accurate updated base of knowledge in these matters.
Maintain awareness of changes in trends and technology in assigned subject areas to better service
clientele.
Work cooperatively with other county Extension faculty, Extension Advisory Council, 4-H members and volunteers to identify the educational needs of the county’s diverse clientele.
Qualifications
Required –
Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Education or related field
Demonstrate effectiveness and experience teaching youth and/or volunteers in a community setting
Applicants must be self-motivated, flexible, innovative, and resourceful with skills and experience in conducting community-based education programs
Ability to communicate effectively
Experience working with diverse audiences of all socio-economic levels
Strong computers skills, experience with Microsoft Office and use of computer technology for educational programming and management
Flexible working hours required, to include some evening and weekend programs and meetings
A valid driver’s license and access to an automobile for travel; willing to travel as needed locally and throughout Maryland

Preferences–
Master’s Degree in related field
Experience in program planning and collaborative work with other organizations
Experience in writing grants and securing funds for projects
Salary Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience, with base salary of $34,275.00/year. The University of Maryland offers an extensive benefits package.
