Washington, DC
BeeAction Campus Coordinator
As part of Friends of the Earth International, we are a
federation of grassroots groups working in 75 countries on today’s most urgent
environmental and social issues. To accomplish our mission, Friends of the
Earth is working at the nexus of environmental protection, economic policy, and
social justice to fundamentally transform the way our country and the world
value people and the environment. Friends of the Earth U.S. is fighting to
champion the environment and create a more healthy and just world.
We’re looking for students to join the movement to protect bees
and other essential pollinators on your campus! Friends of the Earth is
building a network of students across the country who are dedicated to
eliminating bee-killing pesticides at their university.
We need students to help build the grassroots pressure that is
needed to move universities to adopt policies that:
· Ban the
use of bee‐killing neonicotinoid pesticides, including plants pre‐treated with
them, on university grounds.
· Actively
plant pollinator‐friendly habitat.
Many universities, retailers and municipalities across the
country have already demonstrated their leadership and commitment to pollinator
protection by taking steps to eliminate the use of bee‐killing pesticides. Now,
you can take part in educating your campus community, running petition drives,
meeting with university officials, hosting speakers and film screenings,
rallies, swarm‐ins and media events.
As a Campus Coordinator, you’ll gain hands‐on grassroots
experience with a national advocacy nonprofit
organization; learn concrete organizing skills from
professionals in the field; and win real victories for
environmental justice!
Responsibilities may include:
· Participating
in campaign strategy sessions and developing local tactics.
· Recruiting
interested volunteers, facilitating group meetings, and providing guidance for
group efforts.
· Organizing
campaign actions such as petition drives, tabling events, rallies, swarm‐ins
and media events.
· Assisting
Friends of the Earth in media outreach to educate people in your area.
· Maintaining
records of work and assisting with database development.
· Coordinating
outreach to other student groups and influential religious groups, labor
groups, campus officials, alumni, and businesses.
Requirements:
· Strong
interest in Friends of the Earth issues, commitment to social change and
interest in developing campaign and organizing skills.
· The
ability and dedication to implement a pollinator protection campaign on your
campus.
· The
ability to coordinate weekly with Friends of the Earth staff and monthly with
other Campus Coordinators around the country.
