Position Responsibilities and Duties
The individual selected for this position will serve as an expert on bat monitoring in Florida and will have the opportunity to significantly influence bat conservation throughout the state. This person will serve as the Bat Monitoring Coordinator for FWC and have a key role working collaboratively with other FWC staff, partners, and volunteers to maintain and expand Florida’s long-term, statewide bat monitoring program. This 3-year, grant-funded position provides a great opportunity to work creatively with diverse partners and stakeholders, address unique conservation challenges, and make important contributions, both in Florida and at regional and national scales through the North American Bat Monitoring program (NABat).

This person will be involved in bat monitoring and other conservation activities throughout the state, working with and providing support for partners and volunteers conducting those activities (i.e., stationary and mobile acoustic monitoring, emergence counts, mist netting, etc.). This person will also process/review acoustic data, submit data to NABat, and conduct analyses of project data and associated ecological data.

In addition, this person will manage the large project dataset, and as necessary refine data management strategies, and produce reports, management recommendations, and other written documents required for the project. This person will also coordinate with other FWC staff and partners to maintain project budgets, facilitate public outreach, coordinate interagency activities and deliberations, and comply with regulatory requirements.

Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences is required. A degree in wildlife science, natural resource conservation, ecology, or similar is preferred. A Master’s degree in one of these fields is strongly preferred.
