CHESAPEAKE CONSERVATION CORPS OPPORTUNITY
The Chesapeake Bay Trust is seeking applications for the Chesapeake Conservation Corps Program where young professionals can gain vital green jobs skills and build a network of connections in the environmental field. This one-year term of paid service places young adults (ages 18-25) with nonprofits or government agencies to work full-time in the environmental field in the Chesapeake watershed. Throughout the year this program provides hands-on professional and leadership experience through on-the-ground work leading and assisting environmental projects and programs, extensive trainings, and other opportunities including networking and grant writing. This initiative is supported by the Trust, BGE an Exelon Company, the U.S. National Park Service and the state of Maryland.
This year the Audubon Naturalist Society (ANS) is one of the many potential Host sites for the 2020-21 Chesapeake Conservation Corps service year. If successfully matched with ANS, a Corps Member would support ANS’s efforts to restore the habitats of its headquarters, Woodend Nature Sanctuary in Chevy Chase, Maryland through invasive species management, restoration planting, habitat surveys and wildlife monitoring. The member would also engage the public on issues of conservation and environmental quality in the region, using Woodend as a demonstration site. The Member will gain valuable experience by working with diverse audiences, ranging from school-aged to adult, and by learning from the experienced environmental educators and conservation professionals of the DC area’s oldest, independent environmental organization.
The Chesapeake Bay Trust anticipates placing around 35-40 Corps Members, young adults 18-25, with nonprofit organizations and government agencies throughout the Chesapeake Bay region for a paid year of service ($19,000) beginning on August 18, 2020. Applications must be submitted through the Trust’s online system by March 12, 2020 at 4:00 pm.
