SEASONAL POSITION AVAILABLE
Position: Biological Aide; Bat Program at Fort Delaware State Park
Employment Period: April 2018 – December 2018
Work Location: Delaware City and Smyrna, Delaware
Job Duties: Responsibilities will include educating visitors to Fort Delaware on the importance of
bats, the effect of White-nose Syndrome on bats and what people can do to help protect bats. Position
will include escorting people through parts of the fort where bats hibernate and making sure that park
visitors are aware of rules and guidelines and ways they can help protect bats. Most of the time will be spent talking to people so incumbent must enjoy interacting with people. Will also be responsible for maintaining decontamination equipment and helping keep decontamination areas clean and well-
stocked. Incumbent will also assist with bat and Delmarva fox squirrel field studies that may include
landowner contact, photomonitoring, bat acoustics, bat catches and resolving bat-human interactions.
Salary/Hours: $10.38-12.50 per hour. Housing not provided. Hours will include weekends and
holidays from May-October and occasional nighttime work.
Qualifications:
1) Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
2) Must enjoy interacting with both adults and children.
3) Background in environmental education preferred.
4) Ability to be on feet all day.
5) Must be able to use basic computer programs (email, Microsoft Word, Excel).
6) Ability to work independently; organized and efficient work habits; good time management skills.
7) Valid driver’s license.
